BIOGRAPHY
Filipina-American Ana Lorenzo is a marimbist and a percussionist. She is committed to showcasing the music of the 20th and 21st centuries and to expanding the repertoire for the percussionist. She is particularly interested in total performance, treading the imaginary line between percussion playing and performance art, and collaborating with artists of different mediums. As an advocate for the expansion of percussion repertoire, Ana has worked alongside many composers and has commissioned and premiered dozens of works. Ana has been featured as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America and Europe. She has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall (New York, NY), The Knitting Factory (New York, NY), Alice Tully Hall (New York, NY), El Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City, Mexico), The Kennedy Center (Washington DC), and Meyerson Symphony Center (Dallas, TX).
Ana received her Bachelor of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied as a Presser Scholar. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree from the Boston Conservatory, under Nancy Zeltsman and Samuel Z. Solomon. She previously studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in Amsterdam, Netherlands and at the Juilliard School Pre-College Division, where she graduated with Special Distinction in musical excellence. She has performed in dozens of master classes with marimbists and percussionists, including William Moersch, Jack van Geem, Makoto Nakura, Valerie Dee Naranjo, Robert van Sice and Marta Klimasara. Ana is the youngest winner of the Eisenberg-Fried Concerto competition and the first winner of the Nancy Zeltsman Marimba Festival Marimba One scholarship.
